ill be useful in Russia
Earlier, the head of the Association of Russian Banks (ARB) Georgy Luntovsky reported that the digital ruble, which also falls into the CBDC category, can be used as a means of payment for cross-border settlements with countries friendly to Russia.
"We know that such prospects are cameroon whatsapp resource being discussed at a high level, and we are closely monitoring these processes. But in general, the construction of cross-border transfers is similar to the construction of operations through other channels - the restrictions are not in the technological plane, but in the political one," he noted in an interview with Izvestia.
According to Georgy Luntovsky, the issue of conducting cross-border payments in digital rubles can be discussed with countries that have already implemented digital currencies - Nigeria, the Bahamas and Jamaica. Belarus and Kazakhstan have also announced plans to issue digital currencies of central banks.
Olga Skorobogatova stated that the introduction of the digital ruble could facilitate cross-border settlements with friendly countries and bring the replacement of the international system for transferring financial messages between banks (SWIFT) closer in Russia. "Cross-border interaction is possible under two scenarios: the integration of two platforms - the digital ruble and another digital currency, or the interaction of national digital currency platforms through a common system. We consider both options promising and are discussing both options," Olga Skorobogatova said in an interview with Forbes.
According to her, organizational and technological issues of cross-border transfers in digital currencies can be resolved, but a political consensus must be reached for this. "The protocols may be different, but this is being resolved in the course of work. The main thing is to have agreements between two or more countries, and these are political issues. If such agreements are reached, then the integration of national digital currencies can really replace SWIFT, because payments and information on them will take place in a completely different settlement infrastructure than now," Olga Skorobogatova emphasized.
In addition, she called the idea of a common digital currency for the BRICS countries very promising, which could become "a breakthrough, a significant simplification of settlements between our economies." "But this is not easy, it is a long process, and although the discussions have been going on for a long time, there are many nuances. That is why we participate in working groups and in parallel work with each country that is ready to cooperate with us on the integration of digital currencies," the First Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank noted.
