The salary… and the rest

Post by tanjimajuha20 »

4. Be confident and relaxed
Stay relaxed and smiling , confident: don't be shy about debating your merits. This negotiation is legitimate, and it is also an opportunity to prove your calm and your ability to argue. This can make a difference.

And above all, don't get upset: if an amount that is really below your expectations is offered, stay silent for a few moments (your interlocutor could make you a counter-offer!) and twitter database calmly express your disagreement, while remaining cordial. If the recruiter tells you that there is no room for negotiation, don't insist: say that you will think about it. And go elsewhere!

5. Don't hide the issue
Some recruiters will deliberately "forget" to bring up the subject. Don't hesitate to ask about remuneration (not at the very beginning of the interview of course!). On the one hand, this will demonstrate your confidence. On the other hand, you should not put yourself in the uncomfortable position of having to negotiate on the basis of a contract that is offered to you, and in which you discover an amount.

Sometimes, a position is attractive beyond the salary, and may justify making concessions. For the professional opportunities it presents, specific advantages, a work schedule that preserves your personal life, a project that is close to your heart... Know how to put things into perspective. A fulfilling job contributes to a real quality of life. On the other hand, be wary of promises that are too vague, and do not put yourself in financial difficulty by accepting a really underpaid job. Clearly, distinguish between passion and reason, by talking with friends and family who know you well and can help you take stock!
