Brief History of the Automotive Industry in Mexico
The history of the automobile in Mexico dates back to 1902, when the first cars arrived in Mexico City, marking the beginning of a new era that would influence urban development and economic activities. After the end of the Mexican Revolution in 1920, the industry began to flourish. Buick was the first national brand to be legitimately established in Mexico.

Later, in 1925, Ford Motors. Co-industry established its first plant in Mexico. Subsequently, the roots of the automobile were affirmed.

General Motors and Chrysler followed in the mid-1930s, solidifying the country's position as a prime choice for low-cost production.

In the 1960s, the introduction of the maquiladora program fan database in Mexico encouraged foreign investment, which then boosted the national employment rate.

In the 1990s, with the adoption of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in 1994, maquiladoras benefited from import duty exemptions and preferential tariff rates for specific products. This served as a catalyst to strengthen the supplier network and stimulate spectacular growth.

The benefits from these agreements have made it easier for manufacturing to grow as a partner to businesses in the United States and around the world.

Recently, with the introduction of EV electric vehicles thanks to technological advancements, Mexico is at the forefront in making all this possible.

There are over 25 vehicle assembly plants that manufacture many brands of cars and trucks in Mexico. Automobile and parts manufacturing in Mexico involves both original equipment manufacturers and aftermarket manufacturers.

Puebla, located south of Mexico City, is home to 83% of all vehicles manufactured in Mexico within a 248-mile radius. It has the fourth-highest population density in Mexico, making it a prime location for manufacturing, particularly for auto parts and assembly. It is Mexico's second-largest exporter of automobiles and auto parts.
