Amazon Prime Video is the video-on-demand platform that has grown the most in the second quarter of the year, as revealed by the ninth wave of the OTT Barometer carried out by GECA (Audiovisual Communication Studies Office) in order to measure the consumption, habits and preferences of users of this type of platform in Spain.

Amazon 's service sets a record with a 68.40% share , 2.2% more than in the first quarter of the year . Thus, it is only 3 points behind Netflix , the platform that reigns with a 71.50% share (up 0.3%).

Also notable in this wave is the rise of Movistar+ (1.1%) with a share of 29.3%, driven by the decisive periods of the Champions League and La Liga and the incorporation of DAZN into its channel offering, which has broadcast competitions such as the Motorcycle World Championship and Formula 1.

GECA also echoes the fragmentation of the market with the increase of other platforms (7.8%; +3.6), among which DAZN (4.2% with an increase of 3.2%) and Filmin (2.2% with an increase of 1.6%) are the ones that achieve the greatest increase compared to the previous wave.

The report also shows that more than 65% of users now have access to two or more platforms (1.6% more than in the first wave and the second best figure of the 11 carried out so far). As for the most popular combinations, the most common is Netflix and Amazon Prime Video (15% of cases), followed by Prime Video as the only platform (11.2%) and Netflix alone (10.9%).

Netflix is ​​once again the preferred platform , chosen by almost half of users (45.8%), although it is down 3.2 points compared to the previous survey. Amazon Prime Video is the favourite of 26.6% of users, an increase of 3.5 points.

The large amount of content available on each platform is the advantage that users of these platforms value most, with Movistar+ leading the way (44%), followed by Prime Video (42.4%), Netflix (40.8%) and Mitele (31.6%).

On Netflix, the most watched series in this period have been "La Casa de Papel" , "Gambito de Dama", "Lupin", "Élite" and "El Inocente". On the other hand, on Prime Video the most watched series are "La que se avecina" , "The Good Doctor", "The Boys", "El cuento de la mano" and "Anatomía de Grey", while on Movistar the top shows are "Hierro" , "La que se avecina", "Antidisturbios", "Vergüenza" and "The Good Doctor". On Disney+ the most watched series are "The Mandalorian" , followed by "The Simpsons", "Falcon and the Winter Soldier", "Loki" and "Scarlet Witch" and "Vision (WandaVision)"; and on HBO the most watched series are "The Handmaid's Tale" , "Game of Thrones", "Homeland", "Chernobyl" and "30 Monedas".

When it comes to consuming this content, 67.60% of respondents prefer to have all the episodes available from the premiere and not wait for their weekly release.

The most commonly used device for OTT content consumption is the Smart TV with 76.9% (down 1.3 points compared to the previous wave). On the other hand, the use of adapted televisions (devices such as Chromecast or Fire Stick) and desktop computers is increasing, while the use of smartphones is decreasing.

The study is based on a survey of 1,000 people over 18 years of age who have access to the main video-on-demand platforms in Spain.
