The World AI Cannes Film Festival (WAICF) is Europe’s top event, attracting policymakers, companies and innovators at the forefront of developing groundbreaking AI strategies and applications. This year was WordLift's first year at the festival, and we took full advantage of the opportunities the event provided. We were exposed to countless disruptive applications, such as Amazon's demonstration of a palm-based identity solution designed to simplify the consumer payment and purchasing experience. A the future intersection of humans and AI were a highlight of the event. One of the most engaging keynotes was delivered by Yann LeCun, Chief AI Scientist at Meta and a pioneer in deep learning. LeCun discussed the limitations of Large Language Models (LLMs), emphasizing that their training is primarily based on language, which constitutes only a small portion of human knowledge, with the majority of knowledge coming from experience. One of his slides titled “Autoregressive LLMs Sucks” underscored his message that while machines will eventually surpass human intelligence, current models are far from achieving this feat. LeCun also shared his insights on his latest work aimed at bridging this gap.
