The cantonal parliament in Valais

Post by asimd23 »

These are not coincidences or isolated events, but signs of a trend that is also affecting Switzerland. During the pandemic, around 150 journalists were temporarily banned from the Federal Palace, allegedly because of a misunderstanding. At the beginning of May, threw out all media workers - with votes from the SP, Greens, FDP and SVP. There was no outcry within politics.

And then there was the initiative by america rcs data Glarus FDP Council of States member Thomas Hefti , who wanted to make it easier to have journalistic texts pre-censored with a small change to the Code of Civil Procedure before a court examines the content of the text in detail. Media lawyer Kaspar Hemmeler believes this is an attack on press freedom .

Courts have regularly fended off such attacks in the past. It is unclear whether this will continue to happen if the hostile climate against the press continues to spread. It could help if the police and politicians decided in favor of freedom when in doubt - instead of using reports, repression and pre-censorship as is the case today. In the end, facts decide what is right and what is wrong. Without freedom of the media, they remain hidden.
