The Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart) has cancelled the national standard GOST R 70139-2022 "Data Processing Centers. Engineering Infrastructure. Classification". This was the result of a meeting on this topic at Rosstandart, which took place on November 23, 2023. The initiators of the suspension were the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media and the ANO "Coordination Council for Data Centers and Cloud Technologies" (ANO KS TsOD).

GOST established technical indicators of data centers and a list of maximum permissible values ​​​​for each indicator for all classes.

A representative of the press service of Rosstandart told a ComNews correspondent that the effect of GOST R 70139-2022 was suspended until December 31, 2025 by order No. 1549-st of December 12 "On the cancellation of the order of the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology dated June 2, 2022 No. 445-st". At the same time, the representative of the press service referred to federal law No. 1195296-7 "On Amendments to the Federal Law "On Communications" (in terms of regulating the activities of data processing centers)." "The legal basis for the regulatory framework for data centers proposed by the bill provides not only for the introduction of a definition of data centers, but also for their classification, thus establishing the basis for the formation of requirements for the corresponding classes of data centers. The adoption of the bill and the corresponding by-laws necessary for the implementation of the provisions of the bill and regulating, among other things, the classification of data centers, is expected before the end of 2024," the press service representative commented and added that, taking into account the planned deadlines for the adoption of the bill and the development of the regulatory framework, Rosstandart suspended the GOST.

During the period of suspension of GOST R 70139-2022, a working group will be organized with the participation of interested parties to finalize the standard. A representative of the press service of the Ministry of Digital Development confirmed to ComNews that the ministry plans to participate in the work to improve the standard. ANO KS TsOD did not comment on the situation.
