Rector of the St. Petersburg National Research University ITMO (ITMO University) Vladimir Vasiliev believes that the specialties "Applied Mathematics" and "Applied Mathematics and Computer Science" should be in universities for high-quality training of students and future IT personnel.

Head of the Applied Mathematics Department at the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI Nikolay Kudryashov told a ComNews correspondent that MEPhI has the following specialties: "Applied Mathematics and Physics", "Applied Mathematics and Computer Science", and "Software Engineering": "Nothing has changed for us. Several years ago, the specialties were consolidated, which does not seem to me to be some kind of delusion or mistake, in particular, the nomenclature of specialties of the Higher Attestation Commission (HAC) changed. The specialty "Applied Mathematics" did not exist in the HAC before. Whether this is good or bad, I will not judge. For example, I am a theoretical physicist by education, but due to my inclinations, I am more involved in mathematics (according to the database, 65% of my articles are on mathematics and 35% of my articles are on physics). Even our department was once called Applied Mathematical Physics, but I received my diploma in the specialty "Theoretical Nuclear Physics" with a specialization in "Mathematical Modeling".
