Spain's history at Eurovision dates back to 1961, when Conchita Bautista represented us with the legendary "Estando contigo" in Cannes. Since then, this country has not missed its "Eurovision" event any year (except in 2020, when it could not be held due to the pandemic). It is one of the most followed musical events, although audiences have differed greatly from one edition to another.

The highest audience figures in Spain for this festival were in 2002 , when Rosa López, fresh from Operación Triunfo, performed "Europe's Living a Celebration" with her fellow contestants as backing singers. At that time, she managed to gather 12,755,107 people in front of the screen, achieving an 80.4% share .

The next most watched episode in Spain was the one starring Chikilicuatre in 2008. His “Baila el chiki chiki” was watched by 9,336,054 people , or 59.3%. The podium was completed in 2003 by Beth , also from OT, with her “Dime” and with 58.4% of the audience. The following year, with Ramón and his “Para llename de ti”, the audience reached 50.1%.

These are some of the data provided by GECA , which has analysed Eurovision audiences since 1992. In fact, this year was the year with the lowest number of viewers, when Serafín Zubiri participated with his song “Todo esto es la música”, which achieved 25.4%.

The second one with the lowest ratings since that year has been Alejandro Abad with "Ella no es ella", with a 35.5% share in 1994. The editions in which Antonio Carbonell (27.5%), D'Nash (28%) and Manel Navarro (28.6%) participated, in 1996, 2007 and 2017, respectively, are others that stayed below 30%.

The two semi-finals of Eurovision 2022 will take place on 10 and 12 May , while the grand final will be held on Saturday 14 May. In terms of brands, TikTok will be the entertainment partner of the contest and Vueling is the official airline of the festival .
